URS dual probe thermometer problems

so i bought one of those URS digital dual probe thermometers and put the batteries in followed the operations which are
press reset button
press the c/f button :which turns it from Celsius to fahrenheit
press the alert button
press min/max button
and all i get is 188.8e and i have tried just resetting it and pressing just the celsius button but get the same results and these numbers are only on the screen whilst i press the button

so can any body here that has used it or just knows a little about it even shed some light on what i am doing wrong or is this a dud any help appreciated and sorry im not sure how to even get photos on my computer let alone a website but i will trie later its the white URS digital dual probe thermometer with the two screens and buttons below them thanks again thomas

i have a few of these and when i press the button like more then 3 times it comes up with thatnumber aswell, but i just press it again and it goes back to normal

cheers ive actually managed to get it working after i posted but dont know how:? i was just pressing buttons and all of a sudden it went to the room temp in Celsius so i guess ill just leave it be the instructions arnt very good with them but i like the dual probe thing

There was a problem at one stage where the batteries they came with were absolute crap. Putting some decent ones in fixed the problem.

cheers mate that was the problem got a new battery and now it works a charm easy as to use now i was wondering what i did wrong
