My husband is building an enclosure for my coastal.

We are going to use ceramic bulbs for heat, so for lighting we are going to use a small strip of white led lights during the day (if needed) and my original idea was to use blue led lighting for night viewing that wouldn't be so bright.

Then we had a thought to maybe use UV light for night time.

My question is whether UV light is harmful to snakes. I do already know that snakes don't need UV light (except in the Diamond debate)

Appreciate your input.

you will find most carpet pythons thrive with uv lights..
i have mine on for a few hours during the day and they are great,,
they help with problem feeders too...

yeah dannyboi i do mean black light

thanks najanaja

I dunno if its harmful to snakes but if their pupils are like frogs it can cause huge harm and literally cook them (or so I have heard) but the eye scales should stop that I seriously dunno. I would say get a moonlight globe the exo terra ones go for 10 bucks and UV blacklights are normally 20-26.

the idea behind the led light is that they dont put out any heat and led lights last forever... so more keen on that idea that lots of different bulbs in the enclosure

well if you are fine footing the cost just chuck the UV black light over a sheet of glass to be safe ( the reason they say it burns pupils is that they don't adjust properly and this lets more light in causing damage) but people say that with a sheet of glass under the light its normally fine.

i asked this question a while back and i decided not to go ahead with it but someone said the black lights are a different grade of uv so its not like a solarium but i still was unsure and seeing im still new to all this i have enough things to worry about haha

You can get moonlight led lights that cost a fortune generally used in aquariums. They are supposed to last something like 10-100 thousand hours I will see if I can find out for you if you want.

i'm not too sure about using the proper black lights although it shouldnt do them any harm, they work great for dragons

I have been using the nec T 10 for Uv for over 10 years for both snakes and dragon and blueys. never had a problem ever.
