Hi all, just a question about UV lights. We acquired a 6 year old turtle over the weekend and the UV light that came with it has a clear plastic cover over the tube. I was told, and always thought that glass and plastic filtered out UV rays which would render the light useless. Its an Aquaone light fitting/reflector but i can't work out why it would have the plastic cover unless it was display lighting for fish or something. any insight would be great.

cheers

ok cheers. i was told it was, but Im gonna replace it anyway. Don't know the age of it.

thats the way UV lights have such a short life span in emitting UV rays not worth the causes of MBD

remove the cover aswell as it would filter out the UV
