Last year I purchased 2 avaries. 8foot x 10foot x 10foot. One is the dogs kennel the other I have contemplated erecting for the purpose of keeping varanids. Excuse the ignoramus question, however, which species are commonly kept outdoors all year in or around Newcastle NSW?

Makes sence. Thank you serpenttongue. So the other species found in southern areas in SA (gouldii or tristis) are not appropriately maintained outdoors year round in my area? Even when using artificial basking sites outdoors?

I believe that gouldii can be kept outdoors in Newcastle, but you may need to supply artificial heating and dry sheltered areas.

Not sure about tristis, but I don't think they really get big enough to be an 'outdoor' monitor.
