I have been making a fair few cages lately and am looking for some reasonably priced easy to install vents to use. Kitchen strainer type about 70mm diameter would be best as a hole saw is a lot easier than cutting square holes. I can find small vents about 25mm diameter but would prefer larger ones. Anyone come across anything suitable, I would appreciate the lead. I need a couple of hundred but would buy more if it reduces the price.

You said it yourself Warwick... the strainer. Drill hole. silicon in thats it. they would be cheap as well as easy.

Hey Warwick , I have had a look around after you mentioned this last week .....
I cant find to many that will do the job , there is one a t bunnings i found around that size but it does not look at all secure for housing snakes ..
Have you thought of spraying the sink strainers white ? I have done this in the past and worked ok ...

Bumping this thread because i am also looking for suitable enclosure vents??

Shape not important but looking for some that are closable for a melamine enclosure??

Any suggested brands or pics anyone could post would get greatly appreciated...

Cheers...Hallie.:D

I brought mine from bunnings. Mind you they are retangular ones held on by four screws. Square holes are not that hard to cut. Granted I used a jigsaw but you can drill them out and then file the edges flat........couple hundred you say......that strainer idea sounds good. You could proberbly find plastic ones and screw them on. How about ebay or the cheap shops? Plumbing suppliers?

maybe someone that manurfactures kitchens might be able to give you a lead on a wholesaler that could supply you with either plastic or stainless sink strainners

how much do the sink strainners cost and are they any good???

Why not just buy the rectangle ones made by Haron( 150 x 75mm), they have a flat back so no need for sqaure/rectangle holes. You can still use your hole saw.

Good idea Dee4, thats what i had planned but i am searching for a design(providing they are even manufactured) that can be opened and closed... Im down in chilly Melb and would like to partially close them during winter to save a little on heating costs...:|

I wouldn't worry about closing them off in winter hallie, I use 2 of these per 4x2x2 unit and it functions well. The units are inside so not much draft will get in there. I'm only 2 hours from Melbourne myself so similar conditions although not so many changes in it each day;)

There are louvred vents, as used in air conditioning, available or ones used as computer cable access in tables but the easiest way is to stick a piece of paer over part of the vent. My problem was price as I am trying to produce a budget cage setup , to supply for under $200,so the price of the vent and labour to install comes into it.

Even easier then, just make a template and drill your holes as and where you need them. That's for free besides the labour and power.

I might design my own custom vent then. My enclosure is beside the front door and will get a draft.. Have a rectangle vent on the outside with some sort of louver slide from underneath??:? I`ll work something out and post pics of what i come up with..

Thanx 4 your help guys...

Cheers..Hallie..:D
