My bearded dragon has a bad case of pneumonia. It is getting worse by the day and the coughing/gagging is now constant. I've called to get him to a vet, I live near Hornsby so I normally use David Vella. First app I could get is next Monday and the other vet I know is also booked up. I'm worried he won't make it till then, does anyone know any other reptile vets in the area? Also if there's anything I can do to help him in the mean time? Any help will be really appreciated

Getting it to the vet would be the best thing and even show your local reptile shop, they can be very helpful, mine were fantastic when my Bluey was sick. Hope your beardie pulls through

Mate, speak to Dave and let him know the situation, I'm sure he'll squeeze you in.

In the meantime, crank the heat up on him. Put him in at least 40c, someone could possible be more accurate as to what temp he can go to.

35 is their optimal body temp. Keep him in a warm dry enclosure and he needs to be started on some antibiotics. im amazed its so hard to get seen i dont think i have ever told anyone they cant be seen that day if they want to be. If you buy chance have a nebuliser or a fogger you can use that on him as well as long as he goes back into a dry enclosure

you need any vet willing to prescribe you fortum.

Sabrina weighs 440g and gets 1.0 (whatever it is in the little diabetic syringes)

she was at the state urs is in when i got her,...very very very sick.

Thanks for the replies, i have bumped up the temps so its very warm in there for him. Im gonna call the vet again tomorrow only issue was david has been away and only gets back on Thursday and is booked up till the following Thursday. Im giving him lots of baths and getting mushed veggies into him to keep him alive till he can b seen. Very horrible illness for them to get...

Ring them and tell them how 'urgent' it is. Hopefully, they can try and fit you in.
Surely, they have to make allowances...

frankii, theres other reptile vets at those clinics,..ur appointment will take 2 seconds,..

nth shore and ARH (animal referal hospital in homebush) are both 24 hours,....

If you call them and tell them its urgent, they should fit you in. I have had to do this once, and got in that day.
If you cannot get in, there is a reptile vet on the central coast in Wyoming who is the one that fit me in on the day i called.
Its not that far from Hornsby to here.. i can give you the number if you want it.

oh, just wanted to add incase u have any other reptiles,...it is highly contagious!!!

Thanks for your help. Will get up there if i can't get in.

Go out to Robert Johnson at South Penrith Vet Clinic. These sorts of illnesses are time-critical and your beardie cannot afford to wait to get the antibiotics he needs.

Hello,

I hope your dragon gets better soon. I wouldn't bathe him right now, since he is ill.
I really hope you are able to get him into the vets. As suggested, Fortum/Fortaz is
very good for treatment of pneumonia & other respiratory issues.
Keep him warm over night to help boost his immune system & try to keep the humidity
below 20% right now.
