Hi,I was just wondering what the ideal wattage of the light bulb in a vivarium should be and how hot should it be just next to the light?I need to know ASAP as the light i currently have in my vivarium is making it 50 degrees Celcius. Thanks!

Theres no ideal wattage.

You need to provide more information before anyone can assist you.

What species (50 degrees is appropriate for some not others).. and general
information on the area your heating - dimensions etc.

What sort of lights are you using? If its just a standard light bulb then go and buy a heap of them and then swap them out until you get the required temp. Otherwise you can get a dimming thermostat which will dim the light until the required temp is reached.

i have found that a melanine enclosure with minimal venting gets to about 32 degrees (ambient ground temp) temp with a 75 watt basking globe.

other than that use a dimming thermostat to control the temperatures.
