Heres a question for the WA Herpers. Are Scorpions and Spiders also protected in WA. If not why are people being raided over having spiders????????

Yes Biggie,

Scorpions and Spiders Are also protected in WA.

All native species are protected in W.A, and there are no pet licencing regulations to cover scorpions and spiders. This means any arachnid or insect in captivity is therefore illegal and also has been taken from the wild.

unlawful collecting of protected fauna carries a $4000 fine and I think that C.A.L.M will be looking to set an example this time.

So that means if someone kills a spider or scorpion they can be fined in WA

.... or keeps an ant farm !

Remember that our reptile laws were exactly the same up to a couple of years ago. Snakes were/are protected, but there has never been anyone prosecuted for killing a snake. However keeping a live one is a whole different matter.

It took ten years of lobbying to change the reptile laws, so good luck to anyone who wants to take on the arachnid challenge. I am just glad that our reptile battle is finally over.
