So all my life ive wanted a V8 and finally today was the day... except being in the sticks (perth) meant the bank staff at closed up shop and left early so now my baby has to sit at the dealer till tomoro morning and i cant sleep
 
haha if i could afford a GT I would get a something with a few more cylinders and far better made, I got an '09 VE SSV Ute, just needs rebadging as the last owner had chev badges on it... Its not amazing but in terms of what I've owned previously its like driving a supercar

V8's are great fun to drive, We are currently in the process of an engine transplant at the moment. Swapping the 302 windsor that has reached the end of its life for a fresher, worked 302. I cant wait.
 
I've been at a bit of a crossroads myself in terms of getting a V8 again. As a Ford nut, the turbo Falcon has just about everything the V8 has covered - weight (handling), power, torque. But it just doesn't have the personality of an 8. The other thing is one is a naturally aspirated engine, the other is force-inducted. For longevity, the V8 would have it covered. I'm thinking the 5.4ltr the Falcon has had in recent years is good, but their new 5ltr is even better. I might have to look at picking up one of the current model FPV V8's in the coming years - before the Falcon gets canned :lol:

I still cant beleive they are canning the falcon....makes my blood boil, but anyway, Im a huge ford nut as well although I like the older ford engines, they are much easier to modify and work on. They are great for longevity, the nf fairlaine we have now has over 300k's on the clock and still drives like a dream.

I used to have a nicely modded 72 Fairlane that I owned and worked on years and years ago. Had a sweet 351 in it with a few hi-po bits and pieces added into the equation. I guess I've become a little lazy in never having to put my head under a bonnet for some time, but the older cars still hold a special place in my heart. Even those crappy Monaros :lol: :)

The latest Falcon is an exceptional car! The supercharged FPV's are some of the best vehicles Ford has ever produced, yet we've become so spoilt in this country for choice, that such an industry here cannot compete with the European market without adapting to consumers needs - and unfortunately sedans are making way for SUV's and the like. I haven't helped them myself and had the option to grab a new XR8, XR6T some years ago, but purchased a more user-friendly 7-seat Toyota Kluger. Resale is another issue also, and sadly again sedans aren't cutting it.

I still believe Fords exit from V8 supercars, and their removal of the V8 back in the mid 80's was always going to create a generation of people who'd turn their backs on Ford. Two of the worst decisions Ford Australia ever made imho.

I completely agree both about the fords pulling out of the v8s and especially the resale value, It doesn't matter what work you've done to your car you will rarely get over current market price...which these days is shocking. We also own an suv (kia sorento) so Im the same, lol.
Your right the new Gt is really hot and I do like the coyote engine, not that Ive had a lot of experience with them, Ive done plently of work on the barra's, windsor, and 250 crossflow though. I must say though that as much as I love fords (falcons in particular) I will probably never buy one once their all 4cylinder front wheel drive, yuk.
