G'day mates from across the large expanse we call the ocean! A friend and I took a trip out cruising the roads tonight after a scattered rain shower or two. We had an excellent night! we came across two very very rarely seen species. Total snake count was two Elaphe obsoleta spiloides, two Agkistrodon contortrix, three Sistrurus miliarius, and one Cemophora coccinea.

Little "buzzworms", two of the three pigmy rattlesnakes we encountered.

Wow they all look great. Love the first one.

Are you allowed to just take snakes from the wild in america?

cool thanks heaps for sharing love the copperhead and the pigmy rattlers..

Grimbeny, each state has their own laws regarding herps. In my state of MS anything that is not protected by law or endangered can be collected with a small game hunting license. There is a limit of four individuals from any species.

I hardly ever herp and actually collect. Some years I may come in contact with hundreds of snakes and might keep two. It just so happened tonight was one of those one in a lifetime nights where we brought home three snakes in one night. They will probably be released. The pigmies may actually be placed in a museum's living collection for data collection. I'm not just a field herper. I also work with the state on their herp atlas.

Great pics, you've got some really nice snakes up there!
