Rapist's 10 victims in nine suburbs
MAN who has raped women in Sydney's inner-west has now attacked women in eastern and southern suburbs, sparking fears he is becoming impulsive and harder to hunt.
Detectives yesterday revealed that the man, previously wanted over five
rapes in inner Sydney, is now linked to a further five attacks,
including ones at North Bondi and Bexley.
"This person is very brazen. He doesn't care whether he has to break
into a property, attack someone on the street or drag them out of their bed,"
Detective Chief Inspector Bob Sullivan said yesterday.
The victims range in age from 15 to 51 and have all been attacked in,
or near, their homes between 11.50pm and 6.30am over a six month period.
Officers from strike force McCoy, set up to investigate the rapes, hope
a distinctive German-made torch he dropped during a struggle with a
teenage victim in the Bexley attack, who was dragged from her bed and assaulted in her driveway on January 17, may help identify the wanted man.
The torch, which is similar in size and shape to a tape recorder or
transistor radio, can only be purchased in Australia through one importer in Victoria, or via the internet.
Other attacks have occured at Hurlstone Park, Ashfield and Croydon. The previously known rapes occured at Erskinville, Croydon, Newtown, Glebe and Marrickville, between December 6, 2003, and March 26, 2004. Insp Sullivan said yesterday police were alarmed at the unpredictable nature of the attacker, with officers previously believing he was only targeting women in the inner-west."Most of the attacks happened at the victim's home in the early hours of the morning, with the offender gaining access through unlocked or opened doors or windows," Insp Sullivan said.
"These [recently discovered incidents] show he is willing to change his
mode of operation."
In the Bexley attack, the rapist broke into a ground floor unit as the
victim slept and then dragged the teenager outside, where she was assaulted in the driveway.
He also varied his style on January 6, venturing to North Bondi where
he raped a woman after grabbing her off the street.
He is described as 25 to 35 years old, with a dark complexion, 180cm
tall and of a solid build. (See photo attached above)
2 - LOCK YOU CAR AFTER FILLING UP YOUR PETROL TANK
(this may just be a myth but it wouldn't hurt to just do iy, better to be safe then sorry)
This is good information for us all to be aware of, it's probably a
good
idea to lock your door whenever you leave the car, whatever you're
doing
and I'm sure after reading this it will give all cause for thought the
next time we're pumping gas.
Last Thursday a Wetherill Park Police Officer stopped in at Shell in
Stockland and spoke with the manager. They were trying to warn as many
people as possible about a Fairfield gang that is operating in
Wetherill
Park. Youths wanting to be initiated into this gang climb into the back
of a woman's car while she is in paying at a petrol station. When she
drives away, they overtake the car, drive to an isolated area and rape
the woman. Please warn your friends and family to lock their doors at
petrol stations and be very alert when returning to their car.
SOMETHING I FEEL THAT NEEDS TO BE PASSED ALONG. BE AWARE OF YOUR
CIRCUMSTANCES AT ALL TIMES...THIS IS A TRUE STORY! This actually
happened to a friend's niece last week. It was after dark and she
stopped to get petrol at a convenience store. She filled her tank and
walked into the store to pay for her petrol. The cashier told her....
"don't pay for your petrol yet...walk around the store a while a! nd
act
as if you're picking up some other things to buy. A man just got into
the back of your car. I've called the police and they're on their way,"
When the police arrived, they found the man in the back seat of the
girl's car and asked him what he was doing. He admitted, he was joining
a gang and the initiation to join is to kidnap a woman and bring her
back to the gan! g to be raped.
According to the police that night, there is a new gang forming here
originating from Fairfield. The scary part of this is that because the
guy didn't have a weapon on him the police could only charge him with
trespassing... He's back on the streets and free to try again. Please
be aware of what's going on around you, ladies. This could happen to
