(yep another heat mat / click clack thread)

I am in the process of building a click clack at the moment and went to buy the heat mat today...

The shop I went to only stocked 'Exo Terra' heat mats and there was a warning on the front that said 'for glass only'.
So is there a brand that is ok for plastic click clacks? What are you using?

Also, the guy at the store said with heat mats you have to have air flow around / under the heat mat..?
It was my understanding you just put the click clack straight ontop of the heat mat (no gaps)? true?

(Yes I will be using a probe thermostat, and yes I have read the 'click clack' thread!!)

<click clack / heat mat pics welcome!>
Thanks for you help.;)

I have a reptile one heat mat under a click clack. I just went to bunnings and brought some little rubber feet so that the heat mat had some room between it and the click clack

I bought a Microclimate heat mat, I didnt want to take any chances...plus did lots of reading up on click clacks and heating. :D

I'd tell you how to do it, but I think it's best to do your own research. :)

(basically, heat mat on a solid base, they recommend polystyrine, I just sandwiched mine between 2 tiles with spacers (for air flow) and then put one third of the click clack over that.)

I'm currently running an R1 heat cord but have an R1 heat mat for when it comes time to upsize also...

The exo terra heatmats are fine to use, tecnically the Reptile one heatmats are only meant for glass enclosures aswell but both work fine, pretty much just do what spinner_collis has done with the rubber feet to allow some airflow. (thats how i would do it) but snapped's version will work aswell. It all comes down to which method u like the best. Just make sure it has airflow and ur all good.

You're welcome, oh, forgot to say I got a Microclimate thermostat (mini stat) as well, after giving myself a blinding headache reading up on heat mats/click clacks for a couple of hours....it was pretty clear you need a thermostat with a heat mat. Don't want to cook your hatchy. :p

Thanks for all your help. I spent way to much time reading through other posts trying to find the answer, should have just swallowed my pride and asked earlier!
Problem solved. :D

Ow something I left off-
the one I looked at had an adhesive side (to stick to the bottom of a glass enclosure)
dose yours have an ahesive side?

I have used a few different brands and all of them worked well on plastic and glass if used with a thermostat.
The only type I would not recommend are the thick green matts, I have seen a number of cases where they have malfunctioned, started melting and almost catching fire on one side while the side with the thermostat probe stayed at the correct temp
