ive had an exo terra sun glo 100 watt heat globe on my hatchling for about a week now and i went upstairs to find shards of glass all over his cage :| whats a good brand of light to be using that will actually last a while? thanks

i own one but i thought beardies (forgot to mention) like a heat globe that gives off light as well?

I just use the standard halogen spotlights you get from bunnings and supermarkets. I vary the wattage depending on the season too. Same effect and you save money.

I use the downlights too. My snakes are happy. But be careful how close your snakes can get to the light. One of my snakes received quite nasty injury which appeared to be burns, on his back - not from touching the light but more like sunburn. Much advice from ppl suggested the temps on the basking site (37c) were not high enough to burn him. So what caused his injury is a mystery. Blister disease or the like have been ruled out, he has shed twice and in shed again. The injuries have cleared to a point I almost have to look for them. So hopefully the next shed will that little bit better again. So watch the heat from the downlights and make sure you still have a cage around it so they can't touch it.

Oh oops, just read you are asking for beardies. I still use the downlight for my ackie and it keeps his temps well. But all the same, if you ever consider lights for a snake, just take heed of my story to keep your pets safe.

i use the reflector globes from bunnings or mitre 10, coles dont seem to have them anymore. :(
they cost between $3 and $4 and seem to last forever,..

for some reason reptile brand globes seem to suck, ive had the red ones explode in the snake enclosures.
lucky i didnt need to worry about the snake eating any,....

Because of the out-phasing of the incandescent (or whatever) bulbs you will find as shops sell out they won't be replaced. The white flouro looking ones are the new age bulbs but unfortunately don't throw the heat our reptiles enjoy.

Are halogen lights going too? If no, they may be the next best once the old ones are no longer available.

Ebay

hey try buying them off ebayany colour (look for bulk bulbs x6) they seem to last ive had the same 2 for my spotted for about 3-4 months and the same for the rest i have used, only had one out of bout 11 that lasted a day but the fuse blows not the whole bulb. just my input.
cheers Paul
