Hi all
My childrens python laid for the first time a couple of weeks ago & I took the eggs for incubating. She used to be the calmest, placidist handlable snake. But now every time i go near her enclosure she comes straight out of her hide & go's ballistic striking at the glass following me back & forth & is very very aggitated.

P.s. after she layed i fed her a weaner rat(which is normal) altho she had'nt eaten in 304days, the following week which was the weekend just gone, i noticed she was very aggitated so i fed her 2 weaner rats, but still she's cranky, what have i done?.

P.s.s. she's in no way under weight.

Any ideas?

You will need to take her out of her enclosure and wipe it down to get rid of any scent made from the birth of her eggs.

Feed her more! heaps more - they are so hungry after laying, they take a lot of food before they are happy again. :)
Congrats on the eggs
Cheers
Adam

Wipe her enclosure out. Apparently the smell of the eggs is what causes the described behaviour.

The smell of the eggs will make them try to look for their eggs and incubate phantom eggs or even pieces of wood/water bowls/hides, but the striking is due to hunder, as ad says. Imagine producing something half as big as yourself without eating for a few months! They're extremely hungry and often want to eat anything which moves.
