The last couple of weeks I have been working on a pond in my backyard. It has taken many trips to get the rocks and I still need more. It is starting to look like what I had in mind. I put in a little waterfall at one end and threw in a couple of plants. The algae on the plants is growing niccely which is good as there are tadpoles in the pond already which is why I don't plan to put any fish in there.
I would love to get a couple turtles in there as well but I would then have to build a strong enough fence to keep the dogs out.

Looking great! :)
But wouldn't turtles eat tadpoles..? I mean I know by the time you got turtles they'd be frogs, but they'll appear again eventually.
Or does that not matter? <not that that would be a bad thing of course.

Put some pacific blue eyes in with the tadpoles, they're great mosquito control and are reccomended for tadpole rearing ponds. Some local rainbowfish would also be good.

looking goo Greebs,do you have some sort of filter to keep it clean?

Love the malamute too, very nice dog!!!

Yeah, the pump that feeds the waterfall has a filter on it.

Malamutes are great dogs but buggers for digging holes everywhere. I need a 4WD lawnmower!

Looking sweet Greebs! Nice dog, nice pond and great that you're getting "natural stocking" going on :) Would the dog definately kill the turts if you put them in? Dem oies have real hard crusts :)

I reckon they would Phil. If they didn't simply kill them, it would severely stress the turtles anyway. I reckon the buggers would probably carry them off and bury them too.
I have quite a large yard though and fencing off that section is not out of the question. I know people who I can buy some Eastern Longnecks off and I would really like to put some in there.

i have a few ponds and we get the striped march frogs breeding in there heaps. would love some green tree frogs though they arn't here anymore

sorry mate just stuffing around.

I've just been doing a little spot lighting in my pond in the backyard. I spotted 4 different types of frogs. A couple still had tails. There are some big tadpoles about the size of a 10c piece cruising around, some of them look to have legs but they are still along way from being frogs.
My little pond seems to be thriving.
