I have a 3 year old childrens python, who is starting to become active again, but he has suddenly become very snappy, I'm not sure why, I'm feeding him (duh, obviously!) and he has water, he use to be very placid, and I handle him every 1 to 3 days, only for a moment though, so as not to stress him out.
pls help!
later

are you feeding him in the tank or in a tub, sometimes snakes become snappy when they are fed in their tank as they associate the door opening with food.
Hope this helps XD

I feed him in a tub usually, so the lid opens from the top, but maybe that's why, he only goes in the tub of a night time, because he can get out between the the glass in the tank.

Looks like we has cooled himself and is abit upset he missed on on a bit of fun.
I've had a few males do this.......but they snap out of it when the warm weather sets in.

as mungus said sounds like a horny boy that missed out this season, my BHP goes like that for 2-3 weeks around there breeding season cause I dont have a misses for him yet. leave him be till a few weeks till it gets warmer. then start handling him again but keep feeding him. what do you feed him and how often?

Ahh yes the old BS theory again!
Feeding in the enclosure will not cause a snake to be snappy, If you believe in that theory every time you open the door and remove the snake it will bite you as being removed would indicate feeding would it not!

I used to wonder why my little coastal would get snappy only sometimes when i opened tank and not others, -i found he was frightened of the way i would place my hands. it was bought to my attention, that the way my fingers and hands look to him, it could be a attacking birds beek, or something else threatening. As he got older, i modified my hand when in tank so it mostly looked like a fist, seemed less threatening to him, and his behaviour slowly changed. Dont know if this helps, b ut good luck

thats a very presumptive comment.
..and illogical, for all you know it would associate being put in its feeding tub with feeding. it may very well associate handling with feeding if you only handle to put it in its tub to feed it. but it might also learn big thing isnt food, hes going to take me there. unless you have ever been a snake, it is impossible to know. my experience has shown it makes little difference where you feed them. BUT in my experience, snakes can be conditioned so maybe if i did feed out of their enclosures, it would further enhance the conditioning. im not a snake so i dont know :p
