this has possibly been done before, i searched but did not come up with anything. what made you choose herping as a hobby or a life??
cheers.

Well for me it was a love and respect of snakes. Fascinating creatures. There is so much to be learnt, for everyone I am sure ! This site has been a great help to me, learnt a bucketload of stuff already and only been here a few days. Thanks to everyone xx

Speaking for myself, I made the decision to get into herps, because the magic had completely gone from the far more common and prosaic mammalian form of bestiality. Herps are so much more of a challenge.

me i was born into it my opa (grandpa in dutch) used to :( keep blueys and carpets
and my uncle over in the netherlands keep 10 gtps not that he'll send me any :( and various other reptiles plus my cousin has heaps of beardeds so i had to carry on the tradition not that i'm complaining :D

So, first year of uni for you then?

I got into it because I just love animals of all sizes and types. I enjoy keeping anything that I am legally allowed to keep. It was one day when I was in a pet shop with my wife that I finally realised that I am married, not at home anymore and I can get whatever the hell I want. Although I still had to get past my wife, I eventually won and now it is in the blood. :)

Twenty years ago I caught and kept my first reptile (bluey) at age ten, a brief hiatus due to me catching my first female (human) a few years down the track (didnt keep  ) and decided that reptiles were less stressful and easier to understand. I suppose I never really grew up. I have also discovered that my reptiles dont seem to mind how many other reptiles are in my collection, while the ladies prefer not to live in a harem (generally)

I dont really understand it. I (& I am sure most of the other members here) always thought that GTPs were native to Australia, & our wildlife laws forbade export of native fauna unless it was to a zoo. 10 of them? Is this a bit like the NSW angleheads you had right up until I offered to buy them? People will still like you if you if you dont bignote yourself. C'mon Westie, the tall stories have gone on long enough.

Dont they keep them in the US??? and rnt they also native to PNG???? and if they are only allowed to keep them in Zoo's overseas y does the US have big private breeders of them??? havn't u seen the pics with all the GTP's in a bucket and others??

I used to bring home insects when I was in pre-school. Mum HATED it lol.
Then, my uncle and aunty moved to the snowy mountains and I started bringing home skinks, jackies, frogs and tadpoles.
Got a bit older and worked with frogs here in Melb - but found that lizards were my true passion.
Got my first snake a few months back (now have 3) and love them too.
Like Duga said, I didn't choose it, it really did seem to choose me.
As for the other half being ok with it - the first time he ever came to my parents place and saw of all of animals, I laid the ground rules that 'if it's with my own money, I get whatever I like, and if that doesn't sit with you - leave now'. We're happily married ;)

OK boy, let's get the facts out here.
1: The guy you have personally attacked in a public forum (against site rules) approached me as he knew that I knew how to contact you.
2: Janet Johns told him that you had NSW angles & that you had told her this as you were going to do a deal with her. As she hadn't completed the deal, she passed the info on to dragons as she knew he was looking for the NSW form for new blood.
3: This implies that Janet is also an example of the personal abuse you've handed out (& I have no intention of being banned for repeating)
4: You claim that I informed you that my frilly had 24 eggs. News to me. Not only are you too scared to take a call from me, it was the owner of the male that you spoke to. He told me this himself. Not that it's any of your business, our girl was there for a hell of a lot longer than 3 days.
5: You seem to be conveniently forgetting that I offered you first chance to breed with her as your male didn't like your female or vice-versa.
6: So far in the space of a couple of months you have called me a thief & now a liar, both on a public forum, purely because we picked up a few animals that you decided you wanted, didn't have the money to buy, were offered to us indepentantly (& totally unknown to me that you had mucked the people concerned around). I am both offended and insulted that you have seen fit to slander me publically merely because you have an issue with the affore-mentioned.
7: If you prefer, we can both continue & resolve your tantrum face to face. Your call, son

i've always had animals and since getting out of showing and breeding budgies because of all the back stabbing , i was looking for something different, and as some know we breed mice and rats for petshops and reptile owners, the more reptiles we handled the more we started to realise how good they were, and it's all history now, i started with 3 blotched bluey's and now we have 26 snakes, 9 bearded dragons, 14 blotched blueys, 3 centralian blueys and 16 eastern blueys, and if everything goes ok will have baby bluey's again this year and seen our coastal belly up tonight, so should have our first snake eggs within the next 5 weeks,

cheers,
steve.........
