Wild SA Woma feeding

A nice warm night in the desert at a remote oil & gas installation in the far north of South Australia.
The loud squealing of the rabbit is what drew the attention to the guys at the facility.
Meals are far & few between in this harsh environment so this was a very satisfying encounter.....for the Woma.

Wow... now that is a rare find. Looks like it's made of sand... Patternless SA Womas would be cool. A feeding shot too? Shame there isn't a video.

SA Womas

They are beautiful snakes & in the wild their colouring is so diverse varying from almost black to very light morphs as you see here.
Have attached a picture of one of my favourite pure blood males that was produced from wild caught stock.

Great series of photos, but I'm a bit skeptical about it being "nature in the raw..." The location is so exposed that it's hard to imagine that the snake was able to ambush a healthy rabbit in that circumstance, unless the rabbit was blind or almost dead. Are you sure it wasn't set up? I guess anything's possible...

Most of SA is exposed country like that Jamie, driest state in the driest continent in the world. lol.

Definitely not set up mate, that is exactly where they were found, It is possible the Woma had latched onto the rabbit under the vessel & was then dragged a short distance by the frantic rabbit trying to escape or simply the rabbit had got too close when inspecting what it thought was food.

Love the pattern diversity, especially among the SA types, but never seen one that muted - puts my light topaz/tanami to shame!
