hey everyone the smorning one of the big wild carpet pythons was on the verandah basking in the sun. its about 2.5 m long i couldnt help myself so i picked it up both of the snakes that come to the house are very placid. whilst holding it i noticed pink flesh looking stuff coming out of its anal scale. any clues if its bad id like to take it to the vet even though its a wild snake its been around for a long time. oh also it seemed as though it had only just shed very bright. cheers scott

Sounds like a big male who doesn't like you very much  That's what it'll be........its hemipenis......it'll be just warning you that it's not happy you're picking it up. You're lucky to have such amazing animals in your backyard!

cheers for the info so maybe ill stop picking him up than lol i live in the mountains of the gold coast so we get that sort of thing all the time we also have a 14ft carpet we see from time to time its a big snake ive seen them grab lorikeets b4 in the tree off my verandah its awsome wathching them hunt in the wild.

That would be unreal to watch :) Where I was bought up, all we had was dugites and tigers... Not something you want hanging off your veranda really

Would love to see pictures of this 14foot carpet, eating lorikeets would only be a snack, the big ones would be eating small wallabys,possums...etc ...If you have a camera next time, how about some photos...
