i know this isnt of much interest to most of you but I had teh opportunity of present two discussion papers in forums at the conference. I also got to listen to other people. David Vella and Jim Stopford presenta paper on wound closure for reptiles. Very good. it is part of the WIRES advanced Reptile Course. I did a very basic presentation on common parasites. The idea is to have a package to take to vets who arent conversant with herp specific problems. It bit of a way to go yet.
Yesterday I presented a turtle husbandry paper. It still needs a lot of work.
The next two papers were one from the Cairns Frog Hospitals Frog Decline reversal group. Man those poor little froggies get some nasty bugs. More interesting than I thought it would be. Thje other paper was by Dr Anne Fowler from Vic. A vet who works with turtles. It was basically a paper on dealing with shell fractures and a system of rating. The use of new material, aenesthetic and pain management. That was absolutely fantastic. her busband is a dentist and the repairs to fractures are often done by him. He is going to give me some contacts to get a bit of experienec in using dental materials for shell repair. One product actually comes off as the shell heal and and another allows bonding to occur through it.
There were two other presentations, Tar removal from reptiles and Flu in Bobtails from Kanyana in WA.
Cheers

Sounds like it was an interesting Conference.

Are these conferences run on a yearly basis?

They are Neil. Next years will be held in SE Queensland. This was only the second. They cover a lot of stuff in three days.

Was it Deborah from the Cairns Frog Hospital, she is quite a character, my wife did a bit of volunteer work with her. They sure get some horrible and devastating diseases.

Thats cool Pete, I know Jim and David well they are great guys and know their **** when it comes to reptile care. Sounds interesting indeed :)

Deborah from the Cairns Frog Hospital does a great job!! Last year FATS had a fundraising even for the hospital.

Thanks Jeff, I was so impressed by the whole thing.
I have bits of information popping out all over the place, I made contacts all over the country.

Great idea Peter..need something like that for a few vets in Nth Qld..i haven't found or heard of any reptile vets up here...in the past with any problems i've had i've had to seek as much info possible from other herpers and books and take that with me for the local vet to be of any help if i went at all.

I did speak with a well respected reptile vet from Sydney who was more than happy to converse with my local vet and provide as much help as possible over the phone..good for future reference...

Good onya mate, all sounds very interesting and insightful....
