Just finishing off Jaffa's main enclosure and about to move him from his 52 litre tub.

My question/s are regarding heating. In the tub his sole heat source was a heat mat set at 32c.

In moving him into the enclosure i will have a thermostat.....now I will be using this to control the spot/heat lamp above his basking spot..........I'm assuming this is set between 32-35C???

What about the ambient temperature of the hot end given the cool end takes care of itself as the enclosure is approx 132 (W) x 45 (D) x 50 (H).

Do I need to set the probe for the basking spot and hot end temps or just the hot spot temp???

Also I will be using a heat mat under his hide at the hot end, set to 32c.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking into setting up 2x2m woma enclosures very soon. I was just going to set a 35deg hot spot and nothing else. They are smart enough and big enough to sit in plain view all day to get heat.... they even 'beg' when I get home so i feed them when I dont put thier hide at the hot end he he he

I would not worry about the heat mat, just a hot spot :D

my 2c

my yearling woma has a ceramic heat emmiter connected to a thermostat set at 32 hot end. i also would not bother with the heat mat. my thermostat has a prob and i just put it on the floor on the hot end. also i prefer with larger enclosures to put a hide on the hot end and one on the cool end or just one in the middle if its not hot enough he will go and bask.

yea im with the others forget about the matt , both mine are fine with just CHE with a basking spot from 31-33c most of the time sometimes a little higher

the matts only going to give you belly heat anyway , get a CHE if you want to keep ambient temps up through the night , works well for me being in melbourne though you may have to have a slightly larger wattage globe to help keep up with the winter temps to what you would use through summer

if you have a ceramic heat emmiter or heat globe connected to a theromosts and its on during the night it will be fine. i have checked on cold nights and he is always nice and warm. i wish in winter i could live in a heated enclosure like his. lol

Insulated hides that are just big enough for the animal to get into work for pythons in regards to cold overnight temps.
