Here are a few photos from the last couple of weeks. It has been hard to get out much due to the strange weather. I had hoped to go on a number of walks on the long weekend but there was just too much rain. I did get out for a few hours this morning before the rain once again returned...
Spring is here and on Friday, I heard the raucous calls of Channel-billed Cuckoos for the first time this season (see http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3e/Channel-billed_Cuckoo_Sep07_kobble.jpg/580px-Channel-billed_Cuckoo_Sep07_kobble.jpg). This is a great time of the year...
These are photos from the Dharawal area and Jervis Bay. I visited Jervis Bay last weekend and Dharawal today (Sat 22 Aug). Although this is August and technically winter, the weather has been mild and spring seems to have arrived a little early this year. Many plants are in full flower and a...
Hi everyone,
This will be my first post to this forum so hope it works!
I've been out quite a bit recently looking for reptiles in my local area, Kangaroo Valley on the NSW south coast, about 150km south of Sydney. The weather has been great for reptiles the last few weeks, and I've noticed...
Hello, My Name is Felix. Im a semi-experienced aquarist wanting to look into herptology:D
I'm intent on Hypsilurus spinipes as a first lizard, but first would like to observe them in wild.
Going to lamington national park this weekend, any spotting tips?
Thanks!
SCINCIDAE -- Skinks
This is the most diverse and abundant family of reptiles in Australia. Members of this family have adapted to virtually all habitats and may be found from tide pools to alpine areas. They range from a tiny islet south of Tasmania up through the Torres Strait Islands north...
I was recently having a discussion with mate about the top 10 most dangerous snakes in the world, he does not think Australia is home to more than half of the top10. so can anyone name the top 10 most dangerous snakes in the world?
Can you ID this snake?
It was found in the Redlands, South East QLD, on April 25 2009 (& was released shortly thereafter).
I want Common name, scientific name & (just to make it a challenge) mid body scale row count and anal and subcaudal scale status (single or divided).
Good Luck.
Hi all, we get a lot of snake visitors here ( NSW/QLD border coastal area ) got another carpet snake in the shed at the moment (been there the last two days and will put picks up some time soon ) but to-nite 6pm-ish just after dark i came across this little guy/girl. As the title suggests not...
Hi all,
I came across this little guy tonight and had to move him/her from the house into the bushland down the road. Can anyone please help me ID it as I have no idea. Is it dangerous or what?
It was about 50-60cm long. It had a pale coloured underside. The colour was more like a grayish than...
Well wasted my night driving all the way to Conondale last night to find 1 Small Eyed, and a Southern Spotted Velvet Gecko. I could have gone 10 mins up the road for that!
Trying to think of a few factors that may have caused everything to stay in last night, these roads normally produce a few...
Copied from my blog.
The other weekend I went up to the Lamington Plateau with a friend of mine. We were hoping to find a bunch of Coeranoscincus reticulatus (after my extraordinary luck with them last time). Sadly, no coeranoscincids were to be found. But we did see a bunch of other stuff...
Did my usual night trip though to Colondale ranges. Not many herps, only 3 snakes and a pink-tongue but loads of furballs including a female (they are all female at this time of year) antechinus with two near-term young on her back and loads of deer. Drove back along a new path I mapped out on...
Firstly.... A huge thank you to Mudimans And Fuscus for coming along......
It may not have been a huge turnout , but at least we may have started something.....
Not Great on writing a story, but basically we chatted, had a few drinks... Did a lil bit of Bush walking/Herping.. And...
On New Year's Eve I was kickin' it old school, by driving up a mountain to look for crocodiles. We didn't find any crocodiles, but we did come across some other reptiles. There seemed to be a few other like-minded people up the mountain. If you were up there, you may well have seen me. I was the...
Found this fella at about 7.30pm coming down from O'reilys/Lamington National Park. I didn't see him (was dark) but a friend said "hey hang on, snake!" so I reversed carefully to check it was ok and saw this lil guy, and was wondering, is he a RBB? Was a few feet long, didn't seem to be injured.

One of my favourites here is the Southern Leaf-tailed Gecko (Phyllurus platurus). These geckos seem to be active much of the year.

This morning I was moving a pile of old fence pailings and found this little fellow underneath them.
At first I thought it was a Red Belly but underneath it is white only the smallest pinkish colour in the sun.
Then after looking at some photos I thought it maybe a Small Eyed snake.
Tonight I decided to go for a walk and kinda half-heartedly look for some herps... on one road, a friend and walked partially down, then turned around and started to come back. We noticed a snake on its back, with a very, very pale belly; only reason we saw it was because it was nearly white...
G'day All,
I recently went on a brief holiday to Northern NSW (near grafton). I couldn't help myself, so some herping was done.
We did a quick trip to Mt Warning and found these two species (new ones to me).
Assa darlingtoni, the pouched frog. The adults can happily fit onto a 5c...
Heya guys, I just got back from a walk, and on the road I found a small snake (roadkill unfortunately) it looks like it must have been killed last night, because it has dried out totally and is completely flat, but i didnt see it last night or the night before, so it must have been killed after...
Hi all this is my first posting!! We live on the Illawarra escarpment and while not a snake lover or keeper we like to be able to identify the snakes we come across. One small snake is making this dificult. They? appear under the dog kennel grey in colour cream under belly? Never longer than 30...
In January, my wife and I spent 10 days in Brisbane. I was there for work so was not able to to much herping. We did visit the Lamington Plateau on a weekend (subject of another post). I also went night driving in the Mt. Glorious area on three occasions and this report will include the...
It's been raining and/or overcast in Brisbane pretty much continuously since early December. This is great for our drought-stricken city but not particularly great if you want to get out and look for reptiles. Yesterday, there was a break in the rain in Brisbane (though other parts of South-east...
I went on a fabulous two week holiday with serpenttongue, inw hich we got to do a little herping. Unfortunately of what we did see only a few shots turned out. More oftne than not, both of use would exit the car at blistering speed to run up and look at the herp before we realised that the...
I found this snake down the road, and only bought him home to photograph it
and then released it.
He looks to me like a small-eyed snake but all the ones ive found are black.
This one is alot lighter like light grey with whiteish sides, any idea?
Hey,
Just wondering if anyone can tell what snake species you are allowed to keep on a Recreational wildlife licence ?
I've googled but can't find a list,
Thanks.
Hey guys,
I got bored so went for a quick squiz in the garden. It was late (4:30 this arvo), cold and overcast so i thought i had about as much chance of finding some herps as i did of scoring a date with Jessica Alba. Much to my surprise, underneath the 3rd rock was a healthy little...

It is a common discussion amongst snake enthusiasts as to how vens compare re; toxicity, deadliness, etc...
I thought you might find this table interesting, it is based on comparison with the toxicity of the Indian Cobra venom, which is assigned a 1 rating.
The table is not mine, but comes...
Hey all how are you? Look I am sure this has been discussed before but Whta i wanted to know is I have just been going over what we can and can't keep in respect to reptles in Qld and after reading it several times as far as I understand we can keep Crocs in QLD on a rec license. Here is the...

I walked into my bedroom before and heard something quite strange.
"AAAR! I challenge you to a duel! A duel to the DEATH!", screamed Mr Snake.
"Dude, like, whatever, let's do it!" replied Mr Stripy Tail.
Hi Everyone,
My partner and I went Bushwalking on the weekend just past, out in Springbrook National Park in South East Queensland. We did a 4hr walk, and spotted a few herps for our troubles!
I tried to put the pics in this message, but I can't seem to get it to work. Have to settle for...
My snakes are all northern species, Stimsons, Brown tree snakes and soon a Bredli. I am wondering does that mean I should hibernate them for a short time only? And just how cool should I let the enclosures get considering winter temps are extremely low in my area. Do pythons like Bredli's...
