my darwin carpet has skin peeling only on the bottum of him it looks like the skin that peels off on your fingers anything wrong?

Any takers? This fella - Darwin Carpet seems healthy. I noticed that there's a patch of strange scales on his head about a week ago. no chance of a burn. Ventral scales all ok. Don't think it's an injury. Looks worse on the photo than it really is. No pus / fluid. He last shed about 3 weeks ago.
