He says snakes with two heads are very rare but not unheard of - he knows of isolated cases in Honduras and Argentina.
Gordon Burghardt, a University of Tennessee reptile behaviour expert, is serving as consultant in the Spanish project. He says he's studied two two-headed snakes during his career and both times the heads were so independent they even fought over food.
"You can have these fights go on for hours," he said.
One was a black rat snake and the other was a ringneck snake, both found in Tennessee.
