Ok just got my stimson here (3 months old on monday) and have him in small container, looking at getting either marine carpet or the play sand (sterilised stuff) for him and when i got him off the breeder told me to feed him then he should be ok too handle, so i did i fed him with the worming stuff, and 2 hours later had a hold let him explore and he was fine to go back in. but later that night came back and he had tipped over his water so i picked him out and when i went to put him back in he nipped. now since then i took him out to change him into an actual tank and he was nipping me multiple times and even tried to get my partner who walked passed.

So really, should he be so nippy as he was fine before?
am i handling too much?
and how should i work out heating as hes in a enclosed wardrobe right now with a 14watt heat matt under him?

Thanks for any help people can provide. :)

i give my stimmi atleast 48hours before i even try to hold him.. you should probably do the same. i think hes just getting used to his new home so i rekon you should leave him for a few days and not touch him, let him settle in. see how he is in a few days time
hope this helps :)

hmm thats what i was thinking hoping so. umm what should i do about lighting and such? as i dont think the wardrobe and a heat matt are hot enough, or are they?

for stimis, you dont rlly need any lighting just the heatmat is fine, make sure u have a hot hide (hide on top of the heat mat) and a cold hide (hide on the other side) and you should be fine, get a thermometer and just check the temps of the hot hide. should be around 30 and you should be sweet :)

oh ok sounds good x o x i know hes new and i shouldnt of held him so much yesterday just that he had spilt his water and today to move him out of plastic container, just hmm the first time he was happy for 30mins he even crawled in my hair and stayed for a bit. hmm ok thats again :) hope he is just getting used to his surroundings.

He will nip for a while leave him for a day or two after a feed before you handle him. Heat mat should be fine in Hervey Bay make sure it is only under part of the container though so he can choose a cooler spot if needed. i just bought a heavy water dish (about$6) from the pet shop they like to get in for a soak now and then. Good advise from EX OH EX two hiding spots. Have fun.

A few things;

- Do not keep him on sand - it is too difficult to clean and he will get scale rot...

- 48hrs is not even near long enough to allow a new snake to settle - I give all of mine two weeks...

- Yes, you are handling too much

- Yes, it is normal for a hatchling snake to be bitey - they all are - let him settle in and he will settle down

Hes a 3 month old stimmi in a enclosed wardrobe? Put him back in his little plastic container and leaver him in there for another 12 months or even more. and just leave him for a week. Feed him a pinkie dont handle him for a couple of days after that and he should be fine

yeah wardrobe is where his setup lies, not just free lol. well ive leaving him be for some more days at least and to see how he goes for a cppl of mins. i think he just needs to get settled.

"repti worm" added to his food every 2 weeks to keep him from getting worms

No need to do that at all, by doing that all you will be doing is causing a resistance
phase of worms or worse kill the animal from overdose.

Yeah mate, i dont worm my guys that often at most i would worm once and then again in 2 weeks every 6months to a year. though yeah i just check feacal samples on all the new stuff i buy and try to check all of my reps for internal parasites when i find the time, ive never had a problem in my collection with worms as my rats and mice a clean and i feed frozen meals. your little guy would be worm free anyway. I pm'd you regarding the snappy problem to, keep me up to date
cheers
