Its 3 am, I seem to have caught my first winter "flu bug", i feel a bit off and cannot
sleep, so I thought i would share some thoughts i had while tossing and turning.
Firstly, i have noticed that on occasion , subjects relating to our hobby can become a
little bit repetious. We find, after logging on that questions have been answered,
and sometimes there is not much to offer that has not been said before, unless
we find some herp related news item or post yet another pic of our beloved pets.
(dont we love them though.lol)
This got me thinking that the chit chat forum is somewhat undervalued. I think we
tend to feel that topics posted here are of little use, seeing as herp related topics
are our primary interest. Yet, we have probly all, at sometime, been guilty of
wandering off topic in those forums, which tends to upset those who posted the thread.
Lets face it folks, we are human afterall, our minds race ahead and come up with
ideas and compelling thoughts, mid conversation, faster than you can say
"what were we talking about". Its natural, we cant help it.
Here is the great value of the chit chat forum. It was created for just that purpous.
Still it is not always used much. People suffer from what i call the "cheers
syndrome
" ( " sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name,
and there always glad ya came, you wanna be where you can see,
people are all the same, you wanna be where everybody knows your name."..)
But when you get there , theres not must to post except that your snake did a poo
or something. Its not like they are always active or even intresting. lol
My thinking is that the more diverse topic threads posted (within reason)
There will always be some new fresh subject to share your thoughts about, hence
less wandering off topics and topics degenerating and getting confusing. Also less
off topic post in herp related forums. So you see it really is designed to work
well and keep everyone happy. Alot of work went into creating the site, and is ongoing.
As far as im aware, (within reason) there is not a limit on chit chat threads, provided:
1 Its within the rules
2 It has some conversational value i.e its not rubbish like "i like blue paint" etc
3 its not deliberatly provocative or a done to death idea.
With that in mind I will try to post 1 new fresh subject in chit chat each week.
First one will be "Interacting with our herps" . Please dont give me too much work folks,
but when those sudden thoughts pop up mid thread, if you feel its worth discussing,
please make a new thread of it in the appropriate forum. That will make it much
easier to follow any one topic. Thanks for reading.
