I have a friend getting a Beardy for his birthday in a few weeks. He has been getting info from his uncle mostly on what set up he needs etc and apparently he was told that UV isn't needed, and also convinced him to buy a nice big fishtank rather than using a melamine enclosure, but god knows why. I know I'm right with the melamine bit for keeping heat in etc, but what about the UV? Is it really needed? Just thought I'd check before I go calling anyone an idiot :)

Thanks, Jamie

Well, from what I know is unless the Beardy gets UV from somewhere he is going to have a hard time absorbing calcium (among other things) and will eventually run into problems. A UV light wouldn't be needed if he was getting adequate sun time (But Beardies need UV).

Mmh, pretty much what I thought. I don't think it'll be getting all that much sun time.
