My 5 year old brought home a new library book yesterday, it's called Silver Skin and is about a newly hatched albino antaresia and how after being shunned by her 12 normal siblings she goes on a journey trying to find a way to cover up and hide. Eventually a snapping turtle tells her she's an albino and how rare and beautiful she really is. So she goes home and her siblings all happily accept their silver sister now that she knows why she's different.:rolleyes:
Anyway, it made me wonder if there is such a thing? I know you get albino GTP and other pythons, but do they exist in the antaresia family?
In the front of the book they called the pythons Large-blotched pythons, and said that the scientific name used for these pythons has varied between Antaresia, Liasis, Bothrochilus and Morelia. So I'm assuming they're referring to children's/stimson's pythons, but I have never heard of albino ones.
I know it's only a children's story book, but I kinda like to make sure the facts are right, especially as my snake obsessed son is totally loving this book. I was worried he was going to ask me for an albino stimson when we get one in a few weeks, but so far he's liking all the 'normal' siblings much better than the albino one:lol:

by the way, all spelling of scientific names is a direct copy from the book!!! I have no idea how to spell any of them!!! LOL

They were selling hets at the Castle Hill expo for about $3000 each so yeah there should be some in a couple of years. Quite a bit longer before they become affordable though

wow!! notechistiger that one looks just like the drawing in my son's book!!! freaky!! LOL
saximus $3000 are you serious?? that's crazy!!! won't be happening for my son any time soon, even if they do come down in price, not unless someone in WA starts breeding albino stimmies anyway!!
I can understand why some people like the albino snakes, they are very different and beautiful, but they really don't do anything for me LOL
Thanks for the info, will have to keep that page open and show my son when he gets home from school, he's going to love it!

Look up leucistic Ball Pythons. They are even more spectacular IMO.
Albino Olive Pythons sell for something like $6000 - $15000 each. People are willing to hand over serious dosh to own something virtually nobody else owns

O.M.G.!!!!!!!!!!!! is all I can say!!!!!!! they are amazing!!! what's with the scales around their mouths though?
$6000 - $15000 for a snake, my hubby would murder me before I even got it home!!!! LOL He can't even understand me wanting to spend $400 on a stimson!!! (even though he's known for years that he's going to have to deal with it eventually! LOL)

I think they are just the heat pits. All Ball Pythons have them but they just stand out more when there is no pigment to look at.
Haha tell him you'd spend the same on a new dog and snakes much less mess and noise as a dog :p

leucistic Ball Pythons are incredible looking snakes, I'd loooooove one of them. Malachi51 - Thats good that they have a book like that in the library for the kids! Kind of like a ugly duckling story with a not so cuddly hero!

he's tried to bribe me about the snake, get rid of the dog and you can have a snake... so I turn it around and suggest we get rid of his cat (that we bottle fed he was so tiny when we got him) ... he gives up with that LOL
but, nah, there's no way I could see myself spending that sort of money on a pet, well, unless I win lotto or something, then I might drop $15k on a snake... LOL

sarcastocrat, I was so impressed with him bringing home a book about snakes!!!! And I know it was completely his choice too (so proud, he certainly takes after me!!! LOL)
I showed him the pics of the ball pythons, he wasn't interested!!! but then he saw the snake ranch pics, the albino didn't interest him either, but they had the 'burmese' spotted next to it, and he was hooked!!! Informed me that he wants that snake!!! (so then had to show him the pics of the stimmies and told him that's what we're getting, and he was still happy)
hehe so proud of my little snake addict side kick LOL (helps keep the hubby on side about it all that's for sure!! he can't say no to both if us!!)
