Have they opened Uluru up to be climbed again?

It was still open when I was there a year ago - but then they closed it due to the weather for the next couple of days. The local aboriginal tribes don't like you climbing their rock as it upsets the spirits or something, so there are notices in all the publications discouraging tourists from doing the climb.

Of course, they may have closed since I was there for some other reason.

I was there last year too, loved it that much, called one of my Bredlies ? Alice.
Fuscus, you definitely have to go to the Reptile Park in Alice Springs, it?s right in Town.

Anyone else got any places to see?

Fuscus,

Well, on the outskirts of Alice is the Alice Springs Desert Park, it's quite good. Several Molochs on display, and they have large varanids free ranging (not actually park animals, they just live there). On the road out to Glen Helen Gorge in the West Macdonells are some other nice gorge areas - Standley Chasm, Simpson's Gap, Ellery Creek Big Hole, Ormiston Gorge, Serpentine Gorge and Glen Helen Gorge. Photo taken at Ellery Creek at http://www.aussiepythons.com/module...ame=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

25 kms past Glen Helen is Redbank Gorge, which I thought was the best by far, but it's beyond the sealed road. I made it OK in my Commodore, but if you're Prelude is low slung, it will have problems.

Have a great time Fuscus. The nite skies out there would just be absoulutely beautiful at this time of the year.
Regards Rina

i went a couple of years ago. i saw heaps of reptiles. A few big sand goannas and a centrlian bluie that i found out the front of the motel room! if you go you should go spot lighting at night!!!

I was gonna head up that way in May but got busy. I dont think now is the best weather in Alice for herpspotting , if u can i would delay it for a couple of months. You will see heaps more then.

I would prefer september but thats scheduled for KI - tigers, platypus red-tailed glossies and great fishing :)
I'm monotoring the temps in Alice and they are only getting maxes of 17 :(. not good. I was hoping for about 25c. I might not go if the temp is too low :( .

Buy a heatmat for your car seat, so you can thermoregulate! p.s. dont blame you, i Hate the cold.

"The Dingo's got my Prelude!"
Take a bigger car Fus.

I've got a front wheel drive, I'm going to try that handbrake thing.

Em
PS. Actually Fus, if there's cloud cover of a night it's less cold. So, cloud is good.

Temps have been at 26 all week - Leaving tonight of tommorrow.
