The Victorian rules go back through many years (and governments of different persuasions).

The street address thing has always been there because they wish to know where the animals are housed (and you are not allowed to house them at the post office!!) They have the right to visit but you do not have to let them in. (A discussion etc. at the front door is ok.)

A post office box cannot be tied to an individual licence holder like an address can. I think you will find that this rule is to try and limit dodgy transactions.

To me the worst aspect of the Victorian laws is not having to provide full and proper details for all transactions but the "Victorian" nature of the schedules which were basically locked down in a different era when there was a different understanding of herps and captive herp husbandry.

Alas there are few votes in trying to keep herps happy so I cannot see this status quo changing any time soon.

If you are thinking political at this point I don't believe it will be the liberal/labour thing that is of concern but the animal advocacy groups who would see us only keeping a few caged birds and fury four legged animals.

dont know about vic or QLD but in nsw it could... i have both my postal address and residential on my licence... is it like that in QLD?

so are they going to go up to QLD to see it before it gets sent down to vic?
You wouldnt be able to find my house if i gave you my address

I could understand if it was andrew that had the po box as his address and it was different to his licence or something.. but shouldnt robs name, licence number and po box be enough for the vic gov to be able to find his real address if they wanted to??

I agree rep-girl. If they want they only need to have my lic number and state and they would be able to acsess my particulars thru the dept with ease.
I have just received rep-girls permint number so she has had no prob, and will be reciving her snake shortly.

There is provision in Vic for a different postal address to the address where the animals are to be held. They are however quite anal about specifying real addresses on movement advice documentation. It is after all about moving the animals not where they send your mail to.

I actually would not put it past them. They make it very clear on the application form that a street address is required and that PO boxes are not acceptable.

Agreed. In this day and age they can almost know more about you than you know about yourself with just a few key strokes.

If the whole thing was managed electronically (as indeed it must be at the back end) then life would be a lot easier.

Hi Slackra,

I recently organised an import/export permit through DNRE in Vic where the other interstate party only had a PO Box as their registered permit address. I gave DNRE a call, assuming they would be anal about the address and explained the situation. I was advised to complete the application form with the PO Box address and also send a letter accompanying it explaining the circumstances in writing. The letter also advised DNRE of the other person's wildlife license number. A few days later I received the permit and the other person's street address had mysteriously appeared on there. DNRE either had the other person's details on record or contacted the governing body in that state. I suppose they'd only do that if they could be bothered.

DNRE? Who are they?

This week they are the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment - next week who knows what the local department will call itself ;-)

ok well now they have the application WITH letter explaining the situation with rob's licence number included. strange that they don't ask for the licence number of the person your geting the snake from in the application and seem to be anal about flamin po boxes :x

well all should be good now, hopefully....
