this list is according to subcutaneous bites (the most common type of envenomation) in LD50 testing (lethal dose in 50% of test subjects)
Oxyuranus microlepidotus - Inland taipan
Pseudonaja textilis - Eastern brown snake
Oxyuranus scutellatus - Coastal taipan
Notechis a. occidentalis - Western tiger snake
Notechis scutulatus - Mainland tiger snake
Notechis a. serventyi - Chapel island tiger snake
Pseudonaja nuchalis - Gwardar/Western brown snake
Acanthophis antarcticus - Common death adder
Austrelaps superbus - Lowland copperhead
Pseudonaja affinis - Dugite
the following points are important
- these tests were conducted using mice and aren't current
- this list doesn't include sea snakes, which would make up about half of the top 10.
- it also doesnt take venom yield, proximity to humans or likelyhood of biting into account... it simply states the most venomous, NOT the most dangerous. i for one find this list extremely misleading as it doesn't take alot of variables into account
i hope i covered all bases...
