Hey there guys ,

I brought a large adult female bearded dragon last night , and after a few hours of settling her , she started to lay eggs. { 22 in total}
I contacted the seller and he informed me that she hasnt been with a male for at least a year..
Why wouod this happen? and how can you tell if the eggs are not fertile?I just want to make sure before i digard of them.

Cheers

They can store the males sperm for next seasons.
They should be ok,if they look yellow they are no good.
Incubate them and candle them in a weeks time.

Girls can lay eggs without being with a male, so don't count your chickens just yet. They could all be duds.

I'll try and put some pics up later today! Yeh i was shocked and I only paid $50 for her to start with { which was extrmely cheap} I think it was because of her age , apparently shes around 6 years old.

You need to candle them just get a small pencil torch and put it up against the egg in a dark room at night and if you see nice red blood vessels then its alive if not its dead

Lewy

How will I know that they are duds? and when do you guys think?

I just told you LOL If you don't see blood vessels then its a dud

The eggs are in moist soil atm , should i transfer them into something else?

Well Do you have a incubator? if so you can move them in to a vermiculite and water mix (I don't have experience in Beardeds so don't no the % hopefully some one will help you on that) Just remember not to rotate the eggs or you will kill it

from what ive read squeeze dried vermiculite that sticks in a ball is the right wetness,..
some people use a thinf spacer of dry vermiculite over the top,...which i found make them less wet and slimy looking when i tried it,..(the eggs i treid it with ended up being duds tho from a squashed lizard on the road,.....)
wow, great score!

good luck with them!! :p

Thanks for ll your help guys , ill keep you posted how i go with them and her.The eggs are in soil atm , and are in an incubator , how often should i put water in it?? should I just lave them in the soil or transfer them into vermiculite?

Most definately transfer them to the vermiculite as it retains moisture whereas soil will dry out in the incubator and you wont maintain the important level of humidity and moisture they need to survive.
