Hey just setting my incubator up as it just arrived.
A quick question
Does the probe to the hygrometer and thermometer go into the cups that hold the eggs or on top of the cups holding the eggs.
Ive been told 29 degrees, 80 percent humidity is optimal. Do I want it to be that in the cups with the eggs or on the cups.
Im going to be using the containers which you get crickets in, which have holes in the top.
I assume the temp and humidity in the cups will be different to outside the cups.
Im a newbie to this so advice would be much appreciated!!
Thanks!

Holes in the lids is inviting condensation on the lids which will drip on the eggs and kill them. I use the no holes in the lids method and just open the lids once a week and give the eggs a quick fan and lids back on. I have the probe on top of the container and reading 29.5-30C/ Hope this helps.

Awesome
So the humidity guage goes on the outside of the countainers next to the temp one then?
Meaning I should fill the bottom of my hovabator with water?
Or will the vermilicute and water mix be enough for the eggs with no humidity needed outside of the containers? Meaning the humidity guage goes inside the egg containers?
I really wanna get this right.

Thanks for the lid advice and the temp advice, ive already set that guage up and changed lids.
Cheers

Inside the containers is optimal for temperature gauge and essential for humidity gauge.
If the containers are sealed then the humidity outside the tubs isn't important at all. If the containers arent completely sealed then placing an open container of water inside the incubator will help stop the incubation tub medium from drying out and also help keep the temperature stable.

Thanks so much!!
You have cleared my confusion :)

So inside the completely sealed tubs with eggs humidity of 80% and temp of 29 degrees is fine?

Yeah that sounds fine, personally I have never measured the humidity before as a correctly mixed incubation medium in a sealed tub will always be the perfect humidity.

you are contradicting yourself here, from what I've read and heard from breeders (and no I haven't yet become 1)and as Animal805 says holes letting moisture in can make the eggs moldy.Moist vermiculite with a SEALED lid is the preferred method so no moisture is required outside the container
