just got everything set up for a dragon and the lady at the shop said i didnt need a heat mat for night time. what do you guys think of this ?

Id recommend a good downlight which puts off heat*, rather than a heat mat, Heat mats can actually burn the inhabitants. Ive never used heat overnight, everything gets turned off when it gets dark. Bunnings has a good range of cheap lamps, along with bulbs which will do the job :)

don't use heat mat. just a good basking bulb during the day and uvb during the day. Switch everything off at night

Depends on where you live. Colder climates (Victoria or SA) sometimes need some sort of heat source during the colder nights in winter.

We live in Adelaide, and kept the heat on overnight when ours were juveniles. Now they're bigger we turn the heat off at night, unless it's going down to 5 degrees or less.

I use to live in Adelaide and still used heat globes at night just a smaller watt like 60 or 40, but make sure you use a red or purple globe :)

Or better yet use a ceramic globe for night heating. The light from coloured bulbs still annoys the dragon, better to use a non light emitting heater.

if you use a good quality infrared or moon light heat globe (red or purple) they will be fine, yes your lizard can see colour but with these 2 they have 1 point for reptile vision and 5 points for heating, so they ARE perfectly fine to use. :)

no no. Don't use an in fared or moon light. If you need heat at night then use a ceramic heat emitter. Experienced bearded dragon breeders and keepers will agree here.

thank you everyone for their input im just gonna use a normal heat globe through the day and shut it off at night :)
