Hi I'm new to this. Just bought my first beardie hatchling on the weekend, and i just wanted to find out if its ok that my little one has only been eating crickets since we got him home??
I put fresh dandelions and hibiscus, chopped up, in every day and he doesn't seam to
touch it. Is this a problem or will he start eating his veggies when he is more settled in???

its fine that hes not eating veges yet, just keep offereing them to form good habits for when he gets older. :)

and post pix! :)

Maybe try him on some small woodies (cockroaches) for a vary in the diet and get him used to eating something a bit different... My beardie doesn't eat a lot of vegies and as a hatchling he didn't eat any vegies...

Thanks for the tips Guys, Now how about this one......
With his heat light, should it be turned down or off at night so he gets a night time temp, or should i leave it up to the thermostat????

I have alwasy left mine to the thermostat as my beardie like to sleep under his heat... But some people do prefer to give them a night time temp.... you can turn it off for 2-3 hours at night but its up to you really...

I left my heating on till he was about 12 months (was a slow grower) and now he gets day heat only, but it's still pretty warm in my herp room so temp doesn't really get that low overnight anyway.

A tip on getting young beardies to start eating vegies/salad, well I started with dandelions, but if you make it move (wiggle it in front of them) it seems to be a bit more interesting to them and they will try to taste and then eat it. I used peas early days too, put them on his food plate and moved them with my finger and he seemed to watch them moving and wanted to eat the moving food. Once he realised how yummy they were he eats them all the time now. Then you add the peas to other salad and they'll try to eat the peas and get other stuff too!

In Adrian's reptile world (the TV/Video series) he showed a food bowl with a remote that could be used to vibrate it and make the food jump around as if it was alive.

There is one that you can get from Reptile one...
