hey guys.
got a question... for the last few days my 5 1/2 year old male beardie has been acting different. usually he is full of energy and always on the move. but lately he has been sleeping under his cave and not really moving around to much. if he doesnt pick up in a couple of days i will take him to the vets and get him checked out to be on the safe side. but has anyone else had this happen to them before
thanks in advance
mel :D:D

Get him to the vet. It may be hes just getting old and slowing down. Has anything changed for him with heat, food ect.

nah, everything has been kept the same. no changes in heat/food nothing like that. he just sleeps alot.

He might be getting older and is not being as active.I would take him to the vet just to be safe.

just called the vet.... the usuall lady i see is on bloody holidays. hehe how typical. but they are gonna ring me back tonight to let me know if i can see someone else there. so , will find out.
do u think it could be anything serious. i know he is getting older. but beardies can live for alot long than that. he has still been eating. just laying down and sleeping flat on the ground all of the time lately. which isnt like him, usually he is on one of his logs under his light.

Initially i would say it was a heat issue, if he's hiding he may be overheating, but if you say the heat has not changed then that doesn't sound like it.

A few things you should check when you conduct a regular diagnostic are how do his limbs feel ? Are they firm to touch ? Are his eyes sunken at all ? Is his spine raised or easy to feel ? What colour is the inside of his mouth ? Are there any blockages in his nostrils ? Do you have a humidity guage in your tank ? If so what's its average reading ?

yeah everything is normal with him. just the fact that he is sleeping alot. thats the only change, that he sleeps heaps and doesnt move around like he use too. will get him to a vet tomorrow anyway just to be on the safe side.

i just fed him a nice rat, and he ate it straight away, so his appetite is still great. have put him under his heat lamp now to digest. so will see what the vet says. its just weird for him to be tired. can beardies develp any sort of diseases at all.

is now booked into the vets 8am saturday morning

Some of my beardies have already gone into brumation, Most of mine do this without lowering the heat.

oh really.
thats good to hear. i still have him going to the vets anyway, i prefer to spend the money and be safe.
i hav noticed his flat mates (2 blueys, 1 shingleback) hav also slowed down alot lately.
maybe they are going into brumation.
how old are your beardies that do it.

Beardies of breeding age will go into brumation early if fed well. After breeding has finished, and as soon as they put on good body weight they will go into burmation, If a dragon is under nurished or has parisites ect. it may choose to feed through winter if heat suits. They start by hiding for multiple days, then will come out and eat one day, bask the next, then hide again, this can go on for some time.

What do you mean you just fed him a nice rat???

i assume what he means by that is he found a rat that donates to charities and helps old people cross the street then he fed it to his beardy...

There are a plethora of diseases that beardies can get - infections (parasites, bacteria, fungi), metabolic diseases, tumours, organ failure etc. etc.

Has his UVB light been replaced recently?
...maybe he needs a new one,...
