Great find! It was a nicely marked python. Unfortunately, I only see those once every year or so.

I thought there was a way to tell with the scales or pores or something on the diamonds that show that its a female?

yeah probed it,otherwise you try to invert the hemipenes and usually at least the sperm plugs pop out if a male of corse

Yeah theyre out. And that one is a real nicely marked one. Some can be bit ordinary, more black than anything but thats a nice coloured girl.

a few km for my house (I live up on the mid north coast) my mum also found a road killed bandy bandy that was in the process of eating a blind snake, and we have seen a dead red belly and a few dead blue tongues. have seen a few live snakes aswell.

how do you tell the males from females?

if a diamond is male you can invert its hemipenes or at least the sperm plugs pop out ,with a bit of manipulation but best tried on a dead snake first as you can injure the animal

or you can probe and depending on how deep it goes will tell you if male or female
has to be demonstrated to really explain
