Best disinfectant method for cages?

what is the best disinfectant method for cages (bird cage style cages)

i have been told 150 different things but i honestly dont no which one is the best or what ones can be harmful to animals after etc

hot water and bleach!

only thing im scared about with bleech is not getting rid of it all properly, i guess if i give it a good wash with hot water after it should be right, i hate using it the smell gives me headaches but it would probably be the cleanest way yea?
