hey guys,
just wondering which is the better to keep of the two animals.
are their feeding/housing requirements the same?
could you please post pics of yours, and what variety that they are?
and if you could post how much they go for, im curious to see the price variation.
thanks in advance,
JACOB

If you have trouble with humidity on the Gold Coast then i'd go a bluey. AND they come in some gorgeous forms like the WA and Centralians.

Simone.

i keep both and both are great. and they live together too and get along great. my shingleback has only 3 legs as she developed bone cancer and had to hve one amputated to save her life. she is doing great. the bluetongues are very quick when out. alot quicker than the shinglebacks. all have awseome temprements. whether you choose a bluetongue or a shingleback you are winning either way.
as far as price goes blueys go for anywere from $30-$150 depending on specie and were ur buying it from. not sure on shinglebacks, i paid $150 for my girl.
and some pics . hope it helps ya. i have 2 bluetongues, a male and female, and a female shingleback. so just some random pics
cheers
mel.

They both have similar needs, so neither is easier to keep than the other.
Bluetongues are a lot cheaper. They generally have more babies as well. Shinglebacks usually only give birth to 1-2 babies (3 if your lucky) and it is not uncommon for them not to have any offspring the following season.
I would reccommend bluetongues simply because you can get more for the same price and they are easier to breed.

I say get a bluey, basically for the reasons Greebo outlined.

we have both blue tongues and shinglebacks but shinglebacks are my favourite by far!!
Im not too helpful but you could get either, as long as they have heat and are inside it doesn't matter! they are both as easy to care for as eachother!!
Though the shinglebacks might eat you out of house and home, lol:lol:

any1 got piccies of different varieties/locales of blueys/shingles?
thanks to all replies. do shingle backs eat more than blueys?

Check out my album for some pics. They both eat about the same amount.

blueys will be the best bet for ease of keeping, not saying stumys r hard to keep, but they dont like humidity,so u need to keep them dry, also ive had a female stumpy have babys the last 4 years straight,3 lots of 2 and 1 year just one, mine r kept indoors as im in melb, mine are of the asper subspecies, also keep all species of bluetongue,if u r new to keeping them,id definatly lean towards eastern blue tongues, and u have the opportunity to house outdoors when they get older then as well, but i like both as much as each other,so u have to decide which u prefer, price wise easterns can be had for around 10 to 100 odd bucks, stumpies generally a tad more, just need to remember dryness with the stumpies, also i find stumpys have a larger appetite, solider lizards though so expected, you cant lose with either mate, just do your homework first and set up for them first, good luck, also theres a thread in general herps called post pics of your skinks, use search and u will see many types of both species there

melgalea, thats a cool looking eastern u have there, and stumpy, lol, cant leave out the little stumper

aww thanks :D:D:D:D
we love em. specially the shinglback cause she is special now with only 3 legs.

As an aside to the core of this thread and more of a response to the title. When I was at SWW the other day a Bluey in with the Shingles was giving one of the Shingles 'what for' by chasing him around this huge enclosure like he'd just gotten his way with his girlfriend.

'twas good entertainment for 5 minutes.
