Hi all,

I'm a loving owner of a juvenile blue tongue, but lately I've been feeling like a bad owner.

As he's grown up (he has recently started producing sperm plugs) he's become more and more eager to explore and just be outside of his cage. I read before purchasing him that blue tongues need relatively few distractions, but I find myself stopping what I'm doing and taking him out nearly every 20 minutes because I hate to see him desperately trying to "dig" his way out. He gets easily more outside-of-cage time than most, so I'm at a loss of what to do to amuse the little guy!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to please him??

thanks!

or any suggestions how i could make the enclosure more interesting?

When I add stuff to the my outdoor enclosure my Bluey loves to check out the new sites and smells. Often I just move stuff around and he checks it out, so just add stuff or change it up if your worried.

Pic of the enclosure?

What have you got as a substrate, we put nearly two inches of Reptibark in our Blue Tongue enclosure and he loves it. Spends ages digging tunnels all through the bark and then goes to sleep underneath it.

Maybe a lady friend is the answer.my male beardie is acting the same way now it's nice and warm most of the time.i give him lots of new logs inside and stuff to explore in his house and as much time as i can in his playpen outdoors....he loves nosing around for the bugs i put in there for him, might that help?or a cold shower.....hahahahahahahahaha

Would have to agree with the others: “In the spring time a young man’s fancy turns to...”. He’s producing sperm plugs so he is driven by his hormones to go look for a mate. Continue to provide the distractions – some good ideas have been provided. I disagree with what you read as I believe bluetongues are intelligent, curious lizards and should not be provided with a barren environment. Just don’t expect him to settle until the hormones drop at the end of the breeding season.
