Chooks and snakes often go hand in hand. You really have to be careful when keeping them. I had a guy living next door to me in suburban Brissy who had a relatively large chook pen. He had two of the biggest red belly black snakes living under one end of that shed. They were rippers! The thing is, I don't think they were after the chooks, more so the rodents that were drawn to the chook house!

I hope your brother is doing well.
agreed moose ..mice and ratties love the chook houses ..cause they get a feed ..snakes love chook houses cause they get the mice and ratties (and sometimes the pythons feel like a chook or two ) even then the pythons may have been on a rattie/mouse hunt ..and came across chicken ..so its not really a direct aim at the chooks or the people that are collecting eggs or feeding ....if you do have a chook house ..in all honesty ,please dont send your child down to get the eggs or feed the chooks ,without you having a look around first ...if its all good then let the kid go for it ...;)

Child bitten on leg by snake | Herald Sun

The Sun really needs to find another 'expert'. I'm glad to hear your brother will be alright.

Why?
You obviously don't like the man and that is your right. I don't agree with some of his past practices but he is actually very knowledgeable when it comes to elapids.
He does not need to be universally liked to be a recognized "expert"
