hi i was just woundering if anyone could please tell me the breeding age weight and size for south west carpet pythons

thanks

hi thanks i went to the site and it says minimum for carpet python is 113cm my carpet is that long but she only ways like 0.5kgs is this to small to breed?

yes at that weight its far to small, You should aim to have it over 2kg at a
minimum before contimplating breeding

alright thanks and also should i be feeding them weakly or fortnightly?? and is 3 weener rats too much??

I would feed them weekly, and feed small rats 50+gms in size instead
of weaners

are those bigger than the weaners if so how many sizes up ?? how many should i feed them.
thanks for your help

most peaople try to do like every 7 days, but im not to sure on how much food to give her. some 1 else will be able to help you there

what about the size should i be feeding them weaner rats or go one size up for there size there both about 1100 long and about 0.5kg??

You will only be moving up one size roughly, Usally up to about 100gms
is classed a small so have a look at the girth of you snakes as this will help you with the
size of the rat to use. It need to be slightly larger than your snakes girth so as to leave a
bulge in the snake when eaten.

alright thanks.. are carpets the same to breed as stimsons or are they a bit different?

Carpets are a different breed to stimsons, stimsons are in the childrens python family so grow smaller then the carpet pythons.

breeding childrens pythons and carpets are very different from what i understand (haveing to yet breed snakes) childrens are live bareing while carpets lay eggs.

nah they lay eggs too lol 3kg or heavier is what you should aim for in carpets so if fed well they can reach that in just over 2 years.

Think you better do some research before making comments such as those.

What??????????????

Come on, I don't mean to sound nasty, but if you're not sure on something, which is obviously the case here, don't proffer advice. This just adds to the confusion for new snake keepers.

In answer to the original question(s), grab yourself a copy of Keeping & Breeding Australian Pythons Edited by Mike Swan.

.................... yep...research, research, research. its worth its weight in gold. alot of different aspects come into breeding snakes so its not something you can just jump into and hope for the best... you have to take in the size of the snakes, then when you should be introducing them...how you cool them...when you start the cooling process ect. and then once you have that down pat, then comes in the incubation process..vermiculite ratio to water, temps and incubator setup and hatchie feeding, just to name a few.

As someone has said the best way to tell what food item to feed to your snake is to go by the width of the snake and feed no bigger. We do that with ours
