Can someone tell me if it is ok to breed two snakes from the same clutch and if so why is there no genetic defects like with mammals?

The royal family root there relatives lol, genetic variation in first generation interbreeding won't (usually) cause deformities but once you start goin into second and third generations this risk increase

Cheers, thanks for that but do you know the reason it doesn't matter. I was just interested as there is breeding pairs from the same clutch on offer very often and sometimes people will not sell the female separately.

It only matters if there is a recessive mutation that is bad. In that case, it is more likely to show up when breeding closely related animals. This is how you also "fix" a mutation you like, such as albinism. This in called inbreeding or line breeding and varies in how closely related the animals are. This is how domestic animal and plant breeds have been created. It is also how various reliable morphs of snakes have been created.

Thanks for that pythonmum , that makes sense now and nice snake.
