Had a feed of frogs last night
[as you do in countries other than Australia]

Got me wondering
Cane toads are big and fat with loads of meaty bits
Is the meat edible??
Birds seem to like it once they figure out what to avoid?

yuck , sorry mate but just the though of eating frogs is gross let alone cane toads .

I'm sure the meat would be edible as the toxin is secreated to skin via glands on their backs. I'm not too sure I'd put my hand up to try it though.

you should try it..tell us what you think lol

lol agreed and then if you like them longgi we will start selling them to you for $1 each you can start selling them to people over there for $1.50 endless supply we will be billionares in no time.

LOl at meat eaters freaking out about some one eating frogs....

I don't see why you couldn't eat the edible bits of toads if you where that way inclined...

The legs have low levels of toxins too, the csiro actually use the back legs to help teach soon to be released quolls not to eat toads. They mince them up and make little sausages out of them. The quolls eat a few, get sick as a dog and learn toad are no good to eat

i think they are eaten in south america. just have to avoid the skin.

Frogs are actually quite delicious
I dont buy them but they are sometimes on the plate when we go out to dinner

Cant get Cane Toads here though [thankyou God]

i wont be greedy he can have them for 20 cents each. @ minimum 100.000 ct

i think this is the perfect place to say .... Frogs are friends not food :)

Bugger
Another fine menu idea tossed overboard

Hell Noo, we do not eat toads in south america, there may be a few around but not for the bbq!!

Does anyone watch the show "Bizarre Foods"? He came to Australia for an episode and ate them. The chick said that as long as the glands are removed they are ok to eat. Not sure if what Leamos said is true though and it's only ok to eat in small doses

I know they were used as a supplement drug when the drug supply was low back a few decades people would boil them up and drink the water. Just thought I'd throw that into the thread.

I have no problem with the idea of eating any bush tucker snake included but the idea of eating cane toad makes me gag. When I visit my folks in Bris I have a 30% detol mix in a trigger pack and go out of an evening and squirt as many of the feckers on the head and back as I can.

Two or three squirts and the hop away and die in short order.

There was a gorrila in a Nth Qld zoo a few years back who started being anti social. They found out he was addicted to canetoad licking and would grab a big fat one and climb to the top of a tree in the back top corner of the enclosure nursing the toad and licking it; and would get really agitated if anyone tried to take the toad away. :D

Saw a doco years ago with Rob Bredl cooking up toads legs. (survival bush tucker)
If I recall right he did say they were chewy.
