Has anyone seen or heard of a bulbous eye in a snake? My baby patternless childrens seems to have developed one (at first I thought it was a water drop on her eye). She's still eating and pooping normally. I was going to wait until she sheds or stop feeding to take her to the vet (or if it gets bigger, of course), but I'd still like some opinions anyway. I'll get a photo as soon as I can.

Do you mean the actual surface of the eye has a growth? Because I'm sure that could be removed, I'm no snake expert though.

It looks like the entire eye has grown, like fluid is in the eye. I thought there was a droplet on water on her eye at first because it sort of looks like there's a magnifying effect on it haha.

Most likely it's a blocked lacrimal duct (tear duct). Not 100% sure that's the correct terminology but a blockage most likely.Vet can drain the fluid and prescribe antibiotics although it can re occur. If it gets too bad it may lose the eye.

Hi Notechistiger I have a spotted python who has had the same as what you are describing, first happened about 5 years ago not long after I got him, I took him to the vet and after an examination he concluded that it was a blocked duct above the eye and that clear fluid was filling the eye.He decided not to drain instead I had to put antibiotic eye drops on him for 10 days then one day it was just gone. It has since happened about 5 or 6 times each time it only lasts about 2 weeks then it will just suddenly go down. When it happens now i just monitor him and note the day it started. During this he always functions normally including shedding. If it continues to get bigger or doesn't dissapear a vet trip is definately a good idea. Good Luck hope she gets better soon:)

I'm happy to say that the eye went down before I had to call the vet. Perhaps it was just what OffRoadHerps had. Thanks for the replies =)
