When it is -35 to -40C during the winter in Manitoba, Canada and you are outside celebrating New Year's Eve, (or other celebrations) the beer freezes VERY quickly so it goes down fast. The bottles of rum, rye, vodka etc do not freeze...but the mix such as coke, 7UP (lemonade in Oz) does freeze. You bring it along in an eskie in hope it doesn't freeze as quick!
We are off to celebrate 'Canada Day' (July 1st) tonight at a fellow Canadian's home in Melbourne. We had the party at our place last year.
I am not much of drinker either, 2 the most then the hangover happens..
If i'm drinking for the taste and pleasure, it'll be good beer or good wine But if its a drinking NIGHT, then it'll be a case of cheap beer (cold or vb), and sometimes a bottle of sambucca goes down nicely. Cocktail nights can be fun too. All this is only if I don't have heaps of free wine from work (I work doing tastings at a cellar door  ). yes yes... hmmm... i might go get a drink.
