It's a type of schnapps (I think), made from potato peels. Scandinavian in origin, the different countries have their own varieties - and variations in pronouncing it. The stuff I had was Swedish and was home made. My mate told me it was 84% alcohol. I didn't believe him until I saw several bottles in the deep freeze - and they were still liquid. Damn powerful stuff.
