Hey all.

My snake's lights are on their way out and I am wondering if snakes need UV lighting in their enclosure? Can I get a Bunnings light that will do the same/similar job?
Currently using Zoo Med Reptisun 22" 10.0UVB. Can I get anything similar at Bunnings for less than $60 for one lightbulb?

They dont *need* it, theyll live and do everything without it. theres arguments that it can help with the colouration of your snake. Petshops will always try selling you the UV lights for extra $$$.

unfortunately with UVB tubes, they arent a 1 size fits all... every company does slightly different sizes for their own branded hoods. - these lights can last a year+ without changing, so $60 should be the least of your worries. if you even continue using it.

you definitely DONT need a t5... a T8 would do fine. however, youll find your hood only takes T5... Petshops are the real criminals here

if your fitting is T8 you can get "Sylvania Reptistar" UV tubes through your tradie outlet or lighting specialist for under $30. Bear in mind that T8 and T10 tubes take the same fitting. T5 fittings are different. If you need T5 buy them through ebay, much cheaper than ripoff petshops.
there are standard sizes in tubes, they come in 18", 24" and 36", so for instance yours is 22" you buy a 24" because that is the size of the fitting, not the tube which is slightly smaller to fit in the fixture.
