Captive breeding the critically endangered Manning River Turtle - 2021

Hi all, so with September just around the corner I decided that yesterday was as good a time as any to implement my artificially controlled triggers to induce mating in my adult Manning River turtles. This involved removing them from their aquarium and placing them out in the sun to warm up while I reduced the water level in their aquarium by 50% I then placed them now warmed up back into their aquarium and proceeded to refill it with ice cold water and increased the intensity of the tank's LED lighting by 75%.


Immediate success.



My work here is done. Bring on October. ?

Lol no mate, I'm being shut down by "the man". The 2021-22 season will be my last breeding purvisi. The QLD government has refused to budge on their stance as per their last enail almost a month ago now which I waited 7 weeks for so unless the species is added by the QFL to the Class 1 or 2 lists when the next species list review happens in May 2022, this year's clutches will be the last.

Not much else to say other than it is what it is.

sad news for the species then, typical boofocrats can't see the forest for the trees. If people like you can't breed these threatened creatures then they will become extinct and the Gubberment will be to blame.
They should be encouraging you and others not badgering you. Keepers and breeders like us are the future for many animals, the only future.

Sad news. Logic never seems to win. I had a feeling the lists wouldn't change during the first round so its why I jumped at the chance for my group this year. Hoping that common sense prevails at the review. I just cannot comprehend how this decision was approved to continue going forward after details emerged on the numbers you and Marc have produced over the years.

You have done great work Kev and you got this incredible species into as many hands as you could. Anyone looking to keep these turtles I cannot recommend them enough and it could be your last opportunity to do so if you're in qld. If work picks up by the end of the year I will be looking at adding even more to my group.
