Hi,

Our carpet python has been behaving rather strangely for the past week or so. He's been hiding under his substrate, as opposed to in his usual log, barely moving most days and seems to be "yawning" quite frequently, something we've previously only seen him do near food or after feeding.

When we approach him, rather than the usual curious interest he tends to display, he often (though not always) gets very still and stops tasting the air.

I don't think he's coming up to a shed, since he last shed about 2 months ago and doesn't really show any physical signs.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether there's likely to be an issue, and if so what the nature of the problem might be?

I'm a little concerned that he might be underfed, over heating, injured or otherwise sick.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Obviously if my concerns were truely overwhelming I'd have taken him to a vet.. it's more like his personality has just been different this past week or so and I'd like to hear from some more experienced people whether this is an issue to be seriously concerned about.

Thanks guys..

phoebe

My spotted is in shed again and it's only been a month (he is been power fed) so yours could be growing fast....

Is there been any changes in his diet? whats the temp? his skin... is it milky? is he eating? more info you give the better....

Snakes hide for many reasons... and yawning can happen even out of feeding times... the more info you give the better the herp community can help you!
